New at DBH

Well, maybe not completely new. I took the Death's Head Hawkmoth design I did and put it back to one color, making a pattern out of it as was suggested by someone. At first I really didn't like it so much, but tried a few color variations and size variations until there were two that looked pretty good.

Now, the all over print has kind of grown on me, maybe it's just the wine talking, or maybe it's just because it's my own work, but I think it looks good. If you do to, I'd appreciate a vote and comment over at Design by Humans.

Threadless Loves Innovation

I reworked this old sunflower design that I had - it's supposed to be that the center of the sunflower is made of solar cells - not sure how apparent that is. I'm really did put a lot of work into this one so a decent score would be nice!

As Good As Popped @ Threadless

Old design - new title! I added some highlighting and moved everything closer together for this popcorn design I originally did for shirt.woot. Since they didn't want it, It's up at Threadless so hopefully it gets a decent score there.

CheFC @ shirt.woot

Not sure how this really fits in woot's demographic design-wise, but I really enjoyed making it. A rooster with a Che beret, standing on a KFC bucket. Hope a few of you like it!

fresh blood oranges

Per request - made a second version! I like this one best I think.

blood oranges

Holy cannoli I actually made something for the derby. Been busy with life and such lately, but I had time to make up a quick entry. Hope someone out there likes it!

shirt.woot packaging design contest

I've gone completely mad and spent entirely too much time making a design for this week's contest. This one at shirt.woot is a little different than usual, as it's not for shirts. Instead, woot would like some new packaging to put their shirts into. They say that the top three will be picked for packaging designs, provided of course they meet the scrutiny of the judge(s) and follow all the rules of the Derby.

This one is about ten hours of work - all hand done lines of course. Not sure if it makes good packaging or not, but I certainly like it. Hope you do too.

Acherontia lachesis returns at shirt.woot

I decided that I just hadn't done enough with the Death's Head Moth design I did sometime ago (and comprises a bit of the header image above), so I redid the entire thing in a tribal tattoo fashion. Initially, I made it a one color, light blue on asphalt image. It looked nice, but just didnt have enough pop. So I branched out a bit and made it really come alive. The coloring on the second version (red, orange, and yellow on black) really shines and gives it a 3D effect.

It was entered into the shirt.woot tattoo derby last week and came in 11th. However, the very cool Adam "Ape Lad" Koford was asked to guest pick Honorable Mention designs and selected mine, which is really awesome! I really appreciate it.

So that makes five entries for the upcoming Do-over Derby, that should be one of the next few.

this shirt.woot sub really pops on red

I just had to get this image out of my head and into the digital realm. For some reason I just couldn't let it go. Yes I know the scared food meme is tired and old, feel free not to vote for it of flame me endlessly on the forums. If there's anyone out there reading this.

I can't ever get red shirts to look right when doing comp images. They look perfect when making them, but when uploading it looks less than ideal. Tried color matching and all the other stuff.

abstract pressure release at shirt.woot

Something a little different from my usual stuff this week. Patterned smoke/swirl coming out of a lamp. Works well on a white shirt! Pastels look pretty cool I think.

Gonna Make You Lunch at Shirt.Woot

Last week's derby was #100, and it was "Mystery". Artist names were hidden and I didn't want to post my entry here just in case someone read up. Not that it was that difficult to figure out who did what, with SDS (shirtderbystats.com) letting the cat outta the bag. But that's also woot's fault. Anyway it's not that big of a deal. I started submitting to the shirt.woot derby way back on #19, Travel. My first entry got 5 votes, and I can understand why by looking back.

The theme this week is "Fake Band T-shirts". I decided to do a parody of C+C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat" (which is almost 20 years old btw, wow!), with PB+J Music Factory, "Gonna Make You Lunch". I'm pretty pleased with how this came out, special thanks to the kind folks at BadTParty.

All art is an imitation of nature

New piece this week for the shirt.woot contest. The theme this week is "Famous Quotations Illustrated", but they have made a lot of quotable material off limits. No song lyrics or dialogue from movies, TV shows, or video games. So, I went way back in time and found a nice art quote from Seneca. Seneca was a Roman dramatist, philosopher, & politician who lived from 5 BC to 65 AD.

"All art is an imitation of nature." is the quote I chose.

To illustrate this I chose a canvas platform, which an artist would use to "imitate nature", and had natural objects such as plants and animals coming out of the canvas. Mostly cool colors (three shades of green, blue, and tan) accompany an orange to bring this one out on a navy shirt.

Thanks for any votes!

vigilante at shirt.woot

Time for a little vigilante action at shirt.woot this week - the theme is BBQ and I've made a giant hot dog fighting back against its oppressors who want to eat it. Please vote!

ice dancing accident at shirt.woot

This week's theme at shirt.woot is dance. Now, I'm not particularly fond of dancing, nor the theme of dancing save a few extracurricular exceptions. But, I made a few designs for it anyhow. This first one is a bit of fun, with some dancing ice cubes in a slippery situation. Thanks for any votes.

shirt.woot disintegrates and skulls are overdone

Wow, two derby entries after being gone so long. Hope some folks like this one, it went through some odd variations. Initially it was going to be an old timey cherubic sun, but that didn't pan out and it ended up like this.

pointillism de los muertos

Wow - it's been a really long time since I made anything for the shirt.woot derby. This week's theme is really difficult to do well - pointillism. Not sure if the entry I made qualifies under the strictest sense, but I subbed it anyhow. Three colors on brown, dia de los muertos inspired skeleton with guitar.

Not Your Average Seahorse

Well, chock this one up for coming back from what I deemed the grave. I submitted this to Uneetee in October of last year, and was just recently told it would print. Huge thanks to Uneetee for selecting my design to be printed! I always liked this one, and looks like it printed great. In for a few for myself, family and friends. On sale now at Uneetee!

Sub for DBH Fleetwood Mac Contest

Finally finished up my submission for the DBH Fleetwood Mac contest! Today is the last day to sub, so I'm glad to finish this one. Put in at least a good 20 or 25 hours for this one, so hopefully it gets a good amount of votes. Thanks for voting!

Thrifty Fill-Up printed!

A huge thanks goes out to Woot for choosing my design to be printed. Not available anymore, but over 1000 of them were sold. For a chance at getting one, keep an eye out for Woot's Random Shirt days or teetrade.org, because that's the only place you'll have any chance at getting one.

shirt.woot heartbreak

I made a small design for this week's heartbreak design contest. It's a Lego-inspired design featuring a towtruck and broken Lego heart. The design is for sale if anyone's interested.

Double Take Derby #4

Well the next do-over derby is finally here and I've got three entries in it this time.

Excellent news! Woot has chosen the "thrifty fill-up" design as Editor's Choice and printed it for sale starting 2/10!

Well, they recycled a theme again but hopefully we get some original work. I've made something original for sure, check it. Will link when it opens tomorrow.

I'm super stoked to have another printing at TeeFury! Thanks go out to wotto for curating the artwork, and to the fine folks at TeeFury for selecting it for print. Goes on sale tonight 1/7/09 11pm CST, and will be available all day 1/8 for just $11 shipped!

Beginning to fly

Made this quick design up! Supposed to be an owl learning to fly, getting a little "assistance" from the larger one. Ha. Up for voting until Thursday 1/8/09 noon at shirt.woot.

catcher in the rye redux

This is up at Design By Humans right now for voting. I added a 3rd color for highlights, as well as added the spider dangling from the web. Also changed the shirt color to their "pea soup" - but now I wonder if they'll still have it now that DBH changed to new tees. Looks pretty nice in my opinion. Linked up! Please vote!!!

shirt.woot beginnings

This week's shirt.woot derby is not really doing anything for me...I struggled to even get this first one out and I don't know if there will be another for this week. Went through several variations of it and ended up with this.
